A 59-year-old motorcycle rider reportedly suffered internal injuries in a recent collision with a pick-up truck on Route 1 in Frenchville. The accident occurred in the southbound lane of the roadway. According to the Maine State Police, a man on a Harley Davidson struck the back of a pick-up when the driver of the truck slowed to turn into a nearby driveway. After the motorcycle collided with the truck, the 59-year-old rider was thrown through the air and landed on the ground directly in the path of the pick-up. Sadly, the truck driver was unable to stop and hit the motorcycle rider as he lay on the ground.
Following the accident, the motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. Due to the apparent severity of his injuries, the rider was later transferred to the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor in stable condition. The 50-year-old driver of the pick-up was uninjured in the crash. It is currently unclear whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the injury wreck.
Although it appears that this accident was likely caused by an inattentive motorcyclist, dangerous or fatal motorcycle collisions may be caused by any number of factors. Depending on the circumstances, the victim of a motorcycle or other accident that occurred in Maine may be eligible to recover financial compensation for their harm. Before damages may be collected following a traffic wreck, the victim of a motorcycle or other crash must be able to demonstrate that their harm directly resulted from the collision and that the other motorist was more responsible for their injury than they were.
